RESEARCH PROGRAM

Lakeridge Health has promoted and supported basic, clinical and evaluative hospital based and community health services research throughout the Durham Region since the 1980’s. Through the conduct of applied and practical research, staff and physicians investigate ways to enhance patient care, introduce new technologies, deliver healthcare more efficiently, strengthen research capacity in the community hospital setting, and attract research funding that enables innovation. Working out of numerous locations, and with 4 sites, our skilled staff and physicians provide care for a large span of communities, including specialized regional services for people in the Central East Local Health Integration Network. In addition to our broad patient population, Lakeridge Health’s research capacity is further strengthened through its formal partnerships with Academic Health Science Centres, community synergies, and sponsorship from both industry (e.g., pharmaceutical) and non-industry (e.g., government) agencies. Lakeridge Health has recruited many physicians with extensive research experience in several different therapeutic areas, and is internationally recognized for its prestigious Oncology Clinical Trials Program. Research support through administrative review, grant applications, contract negotiation, legal review, investigator profiling and research promotion within the organization and community is available from Dr. Kirsten Burgomaster at (905) 576-8711 ext. 6161 or kburgomaster@lakeridgehealth.on.ca.
Research Ethics Board submissions are centralized, standardized and coordinated via Academic Affairs – Research Ethics Board Liaison at (905) 576-8711 ext. 4727 or nstevens@lakeridgehealth.on.ca.
